It might be nice if I knew some things ahead of time. In particular, it would be easier to manage type 1 diabetes.
I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve injected my ‘no-exercise’ bolus for a meal – and then decided to do some exercise!
Life just isn’t so predictable in the details. I guess I could just not do the exercise (and that is what I do sometimes). But it seems like a good idea to at least be able to if I want to.
Timing
They say great comedy is all abou-TIMING!
Some of my hypos are all about timing too.
It makes a difference if I injected hours ago, or just a few minutes ago.
If I just injected, there’s a lot of insulin there to get magnified in power
If I injected many hours ago, there can be a far smaller effect (from basal)
So I try to work out some simple rules for these situations. It depends on how much exercise I’ll be doing and how far from the injection I am.
In some situations I quickly chow down some fruit (I’ve worked out about the right amount for me), and make sure to have lollies with me.
