Lollies that Stick Around

The Sun Factor

Who didn’t like eating lollies a lot growing up?

I didn’t get fooled by size – gobstoppers and giant lollipops really weren’t tasty at all.

Coke bottles were probably the cream of the crop. But now, chocolate is best – even those minty chocolates left at the end of the mix box are great.

Even better now, sugary sweets are literally medicine to me.

Have you ever tasted what passes for ‘medicine lollies’? Yuk. Probably taste-tested by cats and dogs.

When Good Lollies Go Bad

I keep lollies stored in lots of easy-to-reach places:

  • pantry
  • bag
  • pocket
  • car

Lollies can melt though. Not too delicious, that.

Two useful things I’ve found are:

  1.  Lollies of low meltability (jellybeans just don’t cut it).
  2. Containers that protect from the sun (the plastic packets lollies come in aren’t the best).

What Do I Do?

My solution is simple. I keep hold of all my BGL finger test strip containers. Other small non-transparent containers would work fine.

I get big packs of Skittles (they don’t melt easily + are higher in glucose). I leave a big pack in my car, pantry etc.

I also take a big pack and empty it into my small containers. Each one can hold about 20 Skittles (about 20g of sugar).

I keep a few containers here, there and everywhere. If I’m going on a walk I put a few containers in my pocket. Very easy and works well for me.
