World 8-2

Time of Day

Insulin wears a watch, I think

Time of day matters a lot to the human body.

Sleepiness/wakefulness,

Getting sun,

Feeling hungry at certain times (then not eating for many hours overnight),

I’ve also found insulin behaves differently for me at different times of the day – can you guess how?

More-ning

My ratio of insulin-to-glucose changes quite a bit during the day.

In the morning, I take an amount (I’ll call) 1.5x-per-glucose

For a lunch meal, that falls to 1.2x-per-glucose

Finally, in the evening it’s x-per-glucose

Quite a big jump! One-and-a-half times the ratio in the morning than in the evening.

How’d I calculate?

I like eating bananas anytime (as well as mangoes, pineapples, strawberries, …etc). Fruit is delicious anytime of the day basically.

So I can use the same meal (that I like) at different times of the day (even on different days) and take tests.

It’s important I remove any differences other than time (like exercise, food etc), I reckon it’s best to test on lazy, rainy Saturdays if I can.

Then I can get a useful number for different times of the day. I always inject less insulin for glucose in the evenings, it means fewer hypos.
