“If the shoe fits, wear it; if it doesn’t, don’t.”
In other (less metaphorical) words, if something someone says ‘fits’ you, then accept it.
But if what they say doesn’t fit you, ignore it.
For example, some people go for margarine instead of butter – something about fat or whatever. I dislike margarine, hence it doesn’t fit me. But they’re welcome to ‘enjoy’ their margarine – I don’t mind!
Give Peas a Chance
I’ve always liked peas. Maybe it’s the Scottish in me.
But it would be a bit silly of me to tell others to like peas too.
Likewise, I might like methods others don’t for reaching a goal.
I might have different experiences. Maths comes easier to me than to others. So I don’t mind using maths quite a bit.
I don’t mind eating weird stuff as an ‘experiment’.
I like to sit reading a book for hours. I tend to like low-tech solutions and ideas.
Advice and ideas have to work for me in the ‘real world’.
I’m okay with trying out ideas, but I don’t worry about giving up on them if they don’t work.
