Sugary Secrets of the Pharaohs

Honey is the ultimate long-lasting food. Some has been found in Egypt that’s thousands of years old. Just add water and eat.

Maybe Indiana Jones should’ve been digging for useful stuff like that on his adventures…

"You mean their treasure was knowledge of where there's gold - right dad?"

Ancients knew about t1d

Bring back hieroglyphics in school I say

has the 1st recorded observation of t1d, on manuscripts from 1550 B.C.

The name diabetes mellitus or ‘High-fluid-loss, Honeyed’ had something to do with sweet-tasting urine…

Kudos to the person who found that out. The original Bear Grylls.

Nothing fantastic happened for a long time…

t1d was, for a long time, a mystery for treatment. Those who had it didn’t last that long.

Then in 1921, those friendly Canadians came to the rescue…

"Welcome to Canada, eh." "Fer sure."

Dr. Frederick Banting and student Charles Best successfully treated a t1d dog with the hormone insulin they’d managed to get some of.

Banting received the Nobel prize in medicine in 1923.

They had a little ‘help’ from some other dogs to get that insulin in the first place…

We can thank Canada

For:

  • Insulin
  • Politeness
