But I still get a bit blindsided by, say, doing unexpected exercise.
As always, I want to keep things pretty simple for myself and reduce those nasty surprises.
Another Matrix
If I know I’ll be doing exercise after an injection, I use simple factors to calculate a change of insulin.
Exercise can be something easy (like walking), but even easy stuff can be done to a hard level (like walking quickly or long).
Experience tells me that an all-day hike means dropping Basal as well as Bolus.
I only use a few different factors to keep things simple.
And I always have lollies/fruit with me just in case.
What about unexpected exercise?
A good question. I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve injected, then a few minutes later I’m being asked to go on a walk or something.
It’s still doable to make a good guess about impact on BGL (in reverse). I’ll aim at some future time to add something to the Resources page about how I’d go about it.
