The 80s Dream

As a boy, there was only 1 car I dreamt of riding off into the sunset – a red, mid-1980s, Ferrari Testarossa.

Fast. Sleek. Stylish to the core. And – obviously – a joy to drive.

Into the sunset - happily ever after.

That 80s Ferrari is here my analogy for ‘outrunning t1d’ (managing type 1 diabetes well so I’m #WINNING).

Because I’m a fan of things that look pretty good, are fun to use, and work for me.

(Outrun was also a cool-looking arcade game.)

I’M NO DOCTOR.

t1d is a tough baddy.

I was diagnosed in 2004. I’d lost 17 kilograms (37 lb) by that point. I’d struggled with months of crazy thirst, loss of strength, and eventually some face numbness. I really should visit the doctor more often…

After 2 weeks in hospital, I gained back all the weight – and a few kilos more – with the help of copious chicken sandwiches and oranges.

Now, I experiment on myself with different ideas from people who know about t1d. Perhaps some of my experiences and thoughts will entertain you.

This site is just my thoughts and story.
